The Fox is Black

  • Linda Nguyen Lopez, a first-generation American artist of Vietnamese and Mexican heritage, creates “abstract works that uncover the emotional depth within ordinary objects, revealing the poetic essence of the everyday.” There’s a lovely organic, kind of alien vibe to her pieces, or perhaps like something out of a children’s book. Her ceramic pieces are so full of life and whimsy, and the gradient color palette she creates is mystifying. I want to own one of these so that I can walk by and run my hands over the surfaces, I bet they feel amazing.

  • A couple of weeks ago I was on a long walk with the family, and as we wandered near the Arc de Triomf (yes, Barcelona has it’s own version lol) we came across a beautiful shop called SATTA. The multi-hyphenate brand offers a thoughtful proposition for individuals seeking a deeper connection with nature, self, and others, through a holistic design philosophy that embraces the tension between urban living and the innate human desire for biophilic experiences. Their study encompasses garments, spaces, botanicals, and ceramics, inviting individuals to slow down and find harmony within a sustainable and balanced lifestyle. As you can see in the photos below it’s evident why this place grabbed my attention. It’s serenity and calmness draws you in.

  • Akio Nukaga returns to Heath Creamics for the 12th year, presenting his collection titled “Shapes from the Heart.” The collection explores form, texture, and color through hand-thrown pieces that combine architecture and sculpture. Each piece is created by stacking spheres, cylinders, and cones into sculptural vessels, resulting in unique architectural designs not commonly found in tableware.

I’m a huge fan of Akio’s work, I wanted to buy a piece of his last year, though the logistics of shipping ceramic pieces halfway around the world stressed me out! This year’s collection is so exquisite. The forms he’s created are so dynamic, and he’s been able to do some really amazing work with the glazes he’s using. The yellow, red, and blue finishes are simply stunning.

If you’re in San Francisco, stop by Heath for the celebration event and sale — Friday, July 21, 5:00pm. And if you’re not, Heath is also giving away a one-of-a-kind piece from the collection, all you need to do is enter your email.
