I don’t post a lot of t-shirts on the site like I used to because I’ve personally grown out of the screen-printed tee thing. There of course are always exceptions to the rule, as is the case with this Goons t-shirt by the guys at OMFGCO. There’s something about the combination of the hand written type and the Misfits-esque skeletons, though they remind me of something else I can’t put my finger on.

You should also check out their recent work for the Gap here in LA. They did a beautiful intervention in the store, with lots of amazing hand painted signs. You can also read a great interview with the guys over on Defgrip, which just went up yesterday.

A couple months ago I was sent a t-shirt by the folks at T-post and I’ve been meaning to write about it since. You see, this isn’t any normal t-shirt, no, this is also a piece of useful information. You see the folks at T-post write an article about a recent topic, say the recording industry suing people or that Cuba is starting to run out of toilet paper. They then get a really cool artist, say like Siggi Eggertsson above, who then does an illustration based on the story.

So far they’ve had a ton of great artists like Andy Rementer, Von, Jeremyville and so on, so it’s definitely worth a peek. The shirts are released every six weeks through a subscription which I think is kind of fun. Getting surprises in the mail is always fun.

Continuing my Australian streak I’ve got this awesome line of t-shirts called Das Monk. The brand was started by Marc Hendrick and Anna Lunoe who release a new collection every 3 months, working with up and coming designers from around the world. My favorite shirts are the ones above which I really like because of their minimal and slightly unusual graphics. I think if you’re going to wear a silkscreened tee it’s better if it’s a bit more random and esoteric like these ones.

A long time ago I was really into graphic t-shirts, it was like my very own addiction. After a while i had amassed a collection of close to 100 shirts or so, which is absolutely silly to think about now. But one of the first really cool shirts I remember ever buying was a Crownfarmer tee. A company started by Bob Kronabuer, he released 100 shirts by a cool artist each month, a concept that was still new at the time. The first ever shirt was a light blue tee with a Don Pendleton drawing that said, “I Get Down and I’m Stoked” which I still have sitting in my closet.

Well Bob is back and he’s starting up a new line with 6 weeks of artists. The first is by Todd Bratrud and features a squidy guy on a bike cruising around and leaving cool looking ink stains all over the shirt. You can read an interview that Bob did with Todd over on Mumble by clicking here.

I want to say that I saw these shirts by Ugmonk a while ago, but I came across them again the other night and I’m loving the simplicity of their designs. For the most part I’ve filtered out all of my graphic tees, but I still love bold designs that aren’t too flashy or goofy. They recently created a special 1st anniversary edition tee which is black on black tee with a big ol’ 1 on it. Simple and classy. I’m also loving the sexiness of that ampersand on grey, giving just the right amount of style.

The band t-shirt is one of those eternal wardrobe items that I’m pretty sure everyone has. Insound understands this and has just launched the Insound Classic 10, a collection of shirts featuring designs by Mike Perry interpreting the music of your favorite “new wave and indie bands from the 1970s through the 1990s.” The collection features The Feelies, Galaxie 500, Beat Happening, Sleater-Kinney, The Magnetic Fields, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Promise Ring, The Olivia Tremor Control and The Apples in Stereo.

The designs are varied but they all have that awesome Mike Perry-ness to them that I love so much. My favorite shirt hands down is the Apples in Stereo one, but the Galaxie 500 one is pretty sweet as well. They’re also selling tote bags and 18 x 24″ posters as well, so if t-shirts aren’t your thing I think you’re covered.

I mentioned in my Gingham Vans post that I was more into stripes these days, so I thought I’d put my money where my mouth and give some good examples of what I meant. I was browsing Urban Outfitters today and found a couple of gems that I really like, despite the UO owner hating gay people and ripping off t-shirt designs left and right. Nonetheless, I found the shoes and striped shirt above, each of them going for less than $30.

I really like the Feathers Jesper V-Neck because the dip in the neckline isn’t painfully low and the buttons give the neckline a little bit of style so that it’s not just a regular ol’ tee. The Raben Striped Slip-Ons on the other hand are really rad and I would probably rock these until the bottoms wore out. Note to everyone though, these are not meant to be worn together, you’ll just end up looking like a weirdo.

I came across this art show a couple weeks ago, which sadly opened open on the 5th, but I still thought it was worth a mention. The show is called Dirty Laundry, which is “devoted to the concept of potential.” What that means in this context is making art out of dirty t-shirts. Basically they asked some really amazing artists to create art of out what would normally be mistakes, like turning grass stains into something beautiful. The list of artists is rather impressive as well, featuring Alan Koshini, April Lee, Andrew Degraff, Christopher David Ryan, Damien Correll, Frank Chimero, Jason Laurits, Labour (Wyeth Hansen & Ryan Dunn), Kate Bingaman-Burt, Keetra Dean Dixon, Kris Chau, Mike Perry, Nikolay Saveliev, Nathaniel Russell, Roanne Adams, Rosemarie Fiore, Roland Adams, Steve Kiyabu, Simone Rubi, Tim Gough, Topos Graphics and Travis Stearns.

I think this is a really great idea, I definitely never thought of trying to turn a mistake like a stain on a shirt into something beautiful. The image above is from Labour, made up of Wyeth Hansen and Ryan Dunn, as they stain a shirt with geometric dots. I would totally buy that shirt! Take a look at the site and see what other rad stuff the participants came up with.
