Saturday in LA

Jeff and I have had a pretty lazy day today. I got my car washed and then we went looking for a job for Jeff.

After that we picked Garrett up and headed over to the Beverly Center. I bought an awesome pair of jeans from Heritage (for only $30!) and Jeff got a really rad yellow and brown striped sweatshirt (which Garrett dubbed the ‘Blonde’). After that we went over to La Brea and popped in Supreme, Family and Turntable Lab. I bought a new Geoff McFetridge t-shirt which I absolutely love, which happens to look really great with the pants I bought.

After that we headed home and have been watching The Office Season 3 in bed all day. We’ve watched 17 episodes so far… yikes. One of my favorite parts was from the scene above. Angela could very well be the scariest person ever. I also loved the episode with the bat.

AIR / Mer Du Japon Video

The video above is for the newest video by AIR, ‘Mer Du Japon’.
I really don’t think it’s all that great. It’s just a re-hash of ‘Once Upon a Time’, except with lesbian dancers and shitty looking CGI dragons. The reason I’m posting this is the lyrics to the song in the video.
In the video, he spouts off a bunch of Japanese-y names, which sounds really rad. But this version isn’t on my CD, and I’d like to know why. Why is AIR holding on the hot Japanese-y goodness?!

Be Kind, Rewind

The picture above is from Michel Gondry’s new movie, Be Kind, Rewind, and I’m reallllllllly excited.
It stars Jack Black, Mos Def, Danny Glover, Mia Farrow and Sigourney Weaver.
The movie is about:

Jerry (Jack Black) is a junkyard worker who attempts to sabotage a power plant he suspects of causing his headaches. But he inadvertently causes his brain to become magnetized, leading to the unintentional destruction of the movies in his friend’s (Danny Glover) store. In order to keep the store’s one loyal customer, an elderly lady with a tenuous grasp on reality, the pair re-create a long line of films including The Lion King, Rush Hour, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, When We Were Kings, Driving Miss Daisy, and Robocop, putting themselves and their townspeople into it. They become the biggest stars in their neighborhood.

Maybe this will be a High Fidelity-esque Jack Black and he won’t be really annoying?! I can only hope.

The Bees / Listening Man Video

This video for The Bees single, ‘Listening Man’ is so fun and clever, it totally made my morning. It was directed by Dominic Leung, formerly a member of the brilliant Hammer and Tongs.
It’s beautifully shot, cast, wardrobed… EVERYTHING! And the song of course, is amazing.

Honda / Choir

I was browsing around Partizan’s site after posting that Teenagers video, so I’ve been watching a bunch of really great videos and commercials all morning. This commercial for Honda by Antoine Bardou-Jacquet really stuck out to me though. Honda has been really hitting the nail on the head with their commercials lately, and this one is no exception. The art direction is totally stunning, the lighting around the choir slightly mimicking the shots of the car. Even the clothes that the choir are wearing, the women’s outfits in particular, are so well done and stylish.
Just watch it and you’ll get to see “what a Honda feels like”.
