Showing the true versatility of paper, SIWA is a collaboration between Japanese industrial designer Naoto Fukasawa and ONAO, a Japanese Washi paper maker. Sine the 1970’s ONAO has perfected the Washi paper technique to create soft Naoron, a paper developed by combining wood pulp and polyolefin to create a material that’s both waterproof and tear proof.
In the hands of Fukasawa the material becomes instant wabi-sabi fashion pieces. The word SIWA is derived from scrambling the word washi and a word meaning “crinkle” in Japanese. So you can imagine how this crinkling adds a sense of age, that worn in feeling that a good, old bag or wallet exudes. The collection encompasses pieces like bags, wallets, eyeglass cases, slippers, and even a driving cap. You can view the full collection of SIWA products by clicking here.
