Dance away to “White Noise” by Disclosure. Please.

From break beats getting a turntable treatment, hazy minimalism, and the blend of experimental, trap and hip hop, it’s a good time to be a fan of any type of electronic music. 2013 has provided some real gems. Remixes and mixtapes appear daily and I, for one, cannot get enough of it.

But for me, the dance track of the year is by two brothers from Surrey.

Disclosure’s rapid rise feels like no coincidence. Their album, Settle, has been intoned by the overlapping sound of so many genres. It’s deep house, disco, electro, funk, what have you… an amalgamation of contemporary dance. “White Noise”, with the playful vocals of AlunaGeorge, has a beat as infectious as a tickle. Phased, twisted synths entwine over the shuffling disco line. While AlunaGeorge’s lyrics are about the dissolution between romantic partners, Disclosure wrote a song that could disco swing you into a new one. One for friday nights indeed.
