Wow! These illustrations by Finnish artist Riikka Sormunen really caught my attention. Mixing a love for fashion illustration with inspiration from the likes of Gustav Klimt and Sylvia Sleigh, her work is unlike anything else I’ve seen recently. Richly detailed and filled with beautiful patterns and textures, Riikka’s illustrations are dark, mysterious and beautifully alluring.
Currently living and working in Berlin, Riikka has created book covers, illustrated for newspapers like The New York Times and The Guardian; and had exhibitions in Finland, the United States, Spain, Taiwan, and South Africa. Most recently she released Big Monster #3, a book of 22 prints inspired by the work of two of her favorite designers: Jonathan Saunders and Dries van Noten.
I love her color pallets and her combination of floral themes and human figures. You can check out more of her work here.
