Belfast-based ceramist Derek Wilson creates beautiful work. His precise, clean forms and simple designs are based on craftsmanship and quality, and his work has an effortless sense of restraint and containment.
Dividing his time between sculptural work and functional objects, it’s clear to see that both disciplines feed off of one another. His functional objects are particularly strong and his designs cover a variety of objects ranging from beautiful, hand-thrown porcelain cups, to elegant teapots and minimalist bowls.
Driven by a passion for the simplicity of form, Wilson draws his inspiration from a diverse range of sources including British Constructivism and the history of the ceramic industry in Europe and Asia. Last year the creative agency journeyfor created a short video profile of Derek which you can watch below. More images of Derek’s work (including his sculptural work) can be viewed on his website.
