I discovered the work of illustrator Alexander Wells in the most recent issue of Port Magazine. His illustration work really caught my eye and so I checked out his website to see more of his stuff. It was there that I discovered this incredible series of illustrations he recently produced for The Folio Society’s edition of Isaac Asimov’s highly acclaimed Foundation Trilogy. Released late last year, the books look terrific and Wells’ illustrations really make it come to life!
Living and working in the UK, Wells uses both traditional and digital mediums to create his work. What I find so wonderful about this series is how he manages to evoke both the futuristic feel of the books but also the period in which they were written.
“I’ve always been an avid reader of science fiction and Asimov’s Foundation Trilogy is among the best the genre has to offer” he says. “The biggest challenge was trying to convey an exciting science-fiction feel and look while staying true to the sophisticated universe Asimov created”. If you ask me, he’s pulled it off!
You can view more of Wells’ illustrations on his site, including more images from the Foundation Trilogy. Go check it out!
