Brooklyn duo Thomas Mullarney and Jacob Gossett, also known musically as Beacon, are still relatively new but their sound is spot-on right now. More and more I’m hearing electronic get more of an R&B influence, I’m thinking Rhye in particular, and this new track from Beacon is in a very similar vein. The track is called “Drive” and it comes off their first full length album The Ways We Separate, which is being released next Tuesday.
The main theme of the album is love, in all it’s nuance, wonder, and it’s potential for pain.
The album focuses, as the title suggests, on the idea of separation — both within the context of relationships and in a more intimate, psychological sense. As Mullarney explains, “The narrative contained inside The Ways We Separate deals with two kinds of separation: one where two entities grow apart, and the other where we grow apart from ourselves. Over the course of a relationship, the two sometimes happen together, one being the result of the other.”
Definitely worth checking out once it’s out next week.
