2012 was a good year. The Fox Is Black turned five last April, a huge milestone for the site. The site received a redesign which further simplified which puts all the focus on the content. We started running the Re-Covered Books contest which is a total blast, and I started The Build-Up with my buddy Jon Setzen. Even though the site turned 5 I still feel like there’s so much more I could be doing, and new years are always good reminders to stop and stock of what you really want to do. I’d love to start making mixtapes again. I’d love to finally create a TFIB store with some cool merch. I want to start speaking at more events. These are all relatively easy things to accomplish, it’s just a matter of focusing and working harder.
I need to give a big thanks to my wonderful writers. Alex Dent and Philip Kennedy, TFIB’s two full-time writers not including myself, have done an amazing job of bringing an incredible amount of interesting content to the site. Alex has consistently brought light to the world of architecture, showcasing new and interesting buildings and spaces. His unique take always provides an incomparable opinion that’s truly his own, one which I’m always thankful for. That said, Alex has had some exciting developments in his life recently, so I’m hoping that we start to see his posts take a slightly different path. In Philip, I feel like I’ve found someone who’s taste is very much like my own. When I see the posts he’s prepared for the week I often think to myself, “I wish I’d found that before him.” He’s also provided the site with new music every Monday which is always welcome. I honestly don’t think the site would be what it is without their contributions, so a huge thanks to them.
I’d also like to thank Alec Rojas, for his random but always brilliant posts, Christina Stimpson for her spot on movie reviews, and Alana Zimmer for her awesome contributions to the Space Suit of the Week. Also a hearty thanks to new contributors Michael Croxton and Skip Hursh. A huge thanks to Alyssa Nassner from Ten Paces and Draw for curating beautiful, monthly wallpapers. Thanks to Chris Driscoll for coding the new design of the site. And of course, my partner in life and blogging, Kyle Fitpatrick, who’s always ia true inspiration.
Lastly, thanks to all the readers out there who continue to read and be involved in the site. It’s always amazing to me that there are so many people out there who enjoy what myself and my team do. May the 2013 be good to us all, and let’s make some awesome shit.
