Bold type based towels for Opening Ceremony by Peter Miles & Leigh Johnson

Bold, type based towels by Peter Miles

Summer has been in full effect here in Los Angeles, so swimming every weekend is a definite must. Having a sweet towel to dry off with though is always particularly fun, and these towels by Peter Miles & Leigh Johnson, who design under the name Piccadilly, are on the top of my list. You may know Peter’s name, as he’s the guy behind the designsfor Sofia Coppola’s movie titles and Juergen Teller’s Marc Jacobs campaigns. Together they’ve created these cheeky towels based on super market advertisements exclusively for Opening Ceremony.

I love that the typeface is “an abused version of Helvetica”, as Peter describes it. The type is awkwardly beautiful in my opinion. Setting it all of though is the color palette, my two personal favorites being the pink with red and the black with green, which almost looks like it should glow in the dark.
