The always impressive Jean Jullien is back again, yet again upping his game. This time around he’s helped create an amazing bar called Le Nid, “The Nest”, which overlooks the city of Nantes at the too of the Tour de Bretagne. The idea is simple but so extremely well executed. As it’s a nest, the bar is shaped like the body of a bird, while it’s long necks circles and wraps around the space, eventually ending at the birds head. Around the space are dozens of cracked egg chairs for sitting or resting your drinks on, which give the space such a wonderful touch.
To further the ambience, Jean’s brother Nicolas, who creates music under the name Niwouinwouin, has created original music for the space. Topping it all off is the fantastic, 360º view of Nantes, which as you’ll see in the video above is an absolute treat.
I really admire these guys for doing something interesting, so different, and so ambitious. It feels like, at least here in the States, that we create heritage, old-timey bars, when we could be creating fantastic, art inspired bars instead. Having a bit of whimsy in our lives could do us all a bit of good. Great work, gents.
