The Fox Is Black Redesign – An update

The Fox Is Black Redesign - An update

First I want to say thanks to everyone for all the great feedback about the new design of the site. I’d say 98% of the feedback has been positive, which is way better than I had hoped for. When we launched the site we knew it wasn’t 100% perfect, but time makes everything better, so I wanted to share a couple of the things we’ve been working on.

First off you’ll notice that the sidebar is working properly now. When you scroll down the page you’ll see that it gradually follows you down, in case you want to jump to somewhere else. If you go back to the top it’s in it’s rightful place again. It’s also been fixed on the Desktop Wallpaper Project page as well. (To clarify, the sidebar doesn’t follow you, it jumps down the page when more content loads in. If the sidebar followed you persistently then some readers with smaller monitors might not see the bottom of it.)

We’ve also put the search bar back in, which I know some of you had been asking for. It wasn’t working quite right so we removed it until things were peachy again. We still need to create a proper page for when there’s no results found, but that’ll be coming soon. You can also click an author’s name and see all of their posts on the site. This is actually something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now so it’s nice to see it working again.

The rest of the changes have been mostly cosmetic. The design has been tightened up overall, things like the line heights and font colors have been adjusted. Making sure that the design looks good on both the desktop and mobile version was a big concern as well but I think the balance is there now. There are still a few things that need to be fixed though. The Desktop Wallpaper Project still has some entries that need to be cleaned up. The problem is that I pasted more than one wallpaper into a post, so I need to break each of those out into their own posts so they don’t lay on top of one another. I’ll be working on fixing that soon.

Finally, I need to a give a big thanks to my buddy Chris Driscoll for all of his help. Without him the site wouldn’t be responsive and amazing and beautiful. He’s a devigner (designer/developer) of the highest order and he’s helped me realize my vision for the site.
