After sorting through over 150 entries for the Show Your City Competition, myself and guest judge Paul Octavious have narrowed it down to one winner, Megan Morgan. We received entries from all over the world, I couldn’t believe how many of you entered, the turnout was fantastic. So thank you all for taking the time to send something in.
As for our winner, we loved Megan’s photo because it embodied it’s city, Venice Beach, so very well. As Paul said, “Not only did Meghan capture such an ethereal, effortless pose by the skater, she captured the vibe of competitive skating the neighborhood is known for.” Kyle and I were also big fans of her photo, but we were hesitant to pick her as the winner because she’s from LA, we didn’t want to seem biased. Paul though was the deciding factor, as this was also his favorite of the bunch.
I think the photo is beautiful and timeless. It could have been taken last week, 20 years ago, maybe more than that. She also captured the photo using a Lomo LC-A+, so that was perfect as well. It’s also amazing that you can see the waves in the background, it doesn’t even look real. The light is perfect as well, it really captures the spirit of Venice Beach.
