With the advancement of digital photography there has, in recent years, been an inevitable (and understandable) movement by some photographers to return to analogue and celebrate the dying format with all it’s quirks and imperfections. These days analogue photography, and perhaps regrettably faux-analog photography, have become a sort of shorthand for cool and now analogue photography sits comfortably amongst the vinyl-records and vintage cars of our popular culture. While I’d comfortably acknowledge an occasional love for the vintage-feel I find it can be difficult sometimes to distinguish between a ‘cool photo’ and a ‘great photo’.
Fortunately I don’t have any trouble making that distinction when looking through the work of Spanish photographer Ana Cabaleiro. The photos above come from a series she took with a Polaroid SX-70; the each image perfectly capturing the beautiful imperfections of the format and leading to a dreamlike quality throughout the work. Indeed, a lot of Cabaleiro could be considered dream-like – her whole portfolio seems to be filled with the stuff of dreams. Make sure to take a look here and spend a few minutes escaping to far off lands, beautiful landscapes and adventures with friend.
