Matt Lifson is going to be a big thing. He’s 26, he graduated from SVA with Honors and he’s currently attending Otis to further his education… but that says nothing about his skills. Matt is a painter who’s creating work that feels really familiar, which I think is because each one is filled with these ideas of our childhood, or at least the childhood of someone who grew up int he 80’s. He also has these amazing compositions which are pretty straightforward, but then are somehow skewed or turned on it’s head, like a tiny glowing forest/waterfall chilling on the top of a pizza. His color palette is explosive as well, which is probably what draws my eyes to these the most, but it’s the complexity of each piece that keeps me looking at it.
I’m really excited to see Matt’s work progress. Based on what I’ve seen I think he’s going to gain some momentum really quickly and totally deserves some high praises. Thanks to TFIB reader Greg for the suggestion!
