Let’s get one thing clear, what you see isn’t a house. So says the owners, Setsumasa and Mami Kobayashi, the couple who had the property built as a testing ground for their outdoor goods company, …….Research. But this structure, design be Shin Ohori and his General Design Co., has some important details that make in more than just a log cabin. There’s WiFi for their laptops and iPads, a bathtub and a full kitchen. So while they may sleep in tents, they do so with comfort and style. This juxtaposition of contemporary and classic is a really neat touch, just enough of both parts, in my opinion. I like being outdoorsy but I do like having my computer around, and having a big kitchen to cook in would be great as well. Plus the surrounding forests of the Chichibu mountain range seem so idyllic, I’m sure it’d be absolutely beautiful to wake up to.

You can see and read more about the structure over on Dwell’s website. All photos were taken by Dean Kaufman.
