I’ve been a fan of The Antlers for a few years now, their debut album Hospice making my favorite albums of 2009. So I was excited to hear that they’re debut album, Burst Apart, was coming out next Tuesday. Sophmore albums can be challenging, but I’ve been listening to Burst Apart for about a week now and it’s a worthy follow-up to their debut. They’ve added some new instruments like a pipe organ, and the overall sound of the album is a bit cheerier in general, less bleak and and emotional as the last one.

There’s several really great tracks on the album, but one of my favorites is the song No Widows. When I listen to the song I think of the word “baroque”, though I’m not sure that it’s the best word to describe it. Nonetheless, if you dig the song above you can listen to the entire album over on NPR.
