When I was compiling bright colored posts last week, the one I never got around to putting up was the work of Japanese illustrator Fumio Watanabe. To be honest, I couldn’t dig up anything about the guy, other than he’s Japanese and his illustrations make my eyes pop. His style incorporates both a wide variety of colors but also a number of repeating textures and patterns that add to the visual complexity. When I look at his images though, I feel really happy and relaxed, even though it’s probably the opposite of how I should feel. They look like they’d be backgrounds to some kind of Hayao Miyazaki cartoon on acid, and that’s pretty awesome, in my opinion.
Update: Here’s his official website, and I’ve corrected his name, which is ‘Fumio.’
