If you’re anything like me you would have probably spent the better part of your weekend staring, mouth agape, at the devastation that has hit Japan. At times like this the arts can seem pretty irrelevant – they certainly pale in importance when compared to an earthquake and a tsunami. However, these images by German photographer Oliver Schwarzwald, created with artist Hugo Bruls for their “Colors” project, encapsulate a sense of magic and hope that is in desperate need right now.

Japan, we are thinking of you.
