There is something slightly unnerving about the work of Canadian photographer Alex Kisilevich. Look carefully at the reflection in the second image and you will see that all is not what it initially appears to be. Using subtle digital manipulation to transform his images, Kisilevich creates layers of unease that arouse both curiosity and confusion. It is wonderful to view the work of a photographer who is also a skilled visual storyteller – especially one that has such a fine handle on the line between melancholy and macabre.
Look out for Kisilevich’s photographs in an upcoming exhibition at the Angell Gallery in Toronto.
