Banksy Does ‘The Simpsons’

I’m posting this tonight because all of your co-workers will be asking you if you saw this, so consider yourself covered. Earlier tonight The Simpsons aired a special opening segment that was put together by none other than Banksy who decided to take a jab at 20th Century Fox and their production methods. It’s pretty funny that they let Banksy do this but still kind of a weird move, in my opinion. I wont’ ruin anything here, watch and get a chuckle.

Update:The New York Times talks to The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean about the stunt. Click here to read it.

This makes me uneasy, for the wrong reasons. I know Bansky probably wanted to cause a bit of negative reflection on Fox’s production methods, but when big corporations can count on a society’s appreciation of irony and/or apathy, and/or appreciation of meta humour, they feel can draft in a very popular underground artist to give themselves a chortling slap on the back for being bastards… we’re in big trouble.

first, they don’t even animate using cels anymore. second the Simpsons have made this very same joke countless times about production methods throughout their myriad of seasons.

i thought it was a pretty funny take on it, and definitely very light on any serious discourse.
