Clare Owen

It is hardly a coincidence that I developed a small crush on Clare Owen’s work when I first stumbled upon her illustrations a while back. Clearly a fan of the French new wave, rosy cheeks and folk-inspired music, Owen’s illustrations reference a number of things that I hold dear…as if, well, they were actually made with me in mind. Appropriating Anna Karina, Audrey Hepburn, gramophone players and bicycles as her subjects, Owen’s use of pencil, watercolours and paper cut-outs produce delicate portraits and still life images that are delightfully feminine and beautifully detailed. As if that wasn’t enough, Owen’s most recent illustrations just happen to feature some of my favourite writers and their thoughts on the writing process.

Coincidence? I think not.
