Katie Niewodowski

Katie Niewodowski’s art practice is concerned with examining “structures of an undiscovered world.” Her beautifully complex sculptures construct candy-coloured constellations that work to evoke cellular networks and otherworldly structures. Informed by a highly theoretical interest in growth/regeneration and decomposition/decay, Niewodowski plays with aesthetics of mutation and metamorphosis. The juxtaposition of varying textures and forms bring to mind fairy floss and candy necklaces, suggesting an artistically feminine interpretation of genealogy and molecular science. Putting aside complicated scientific concepts, her work also reveals a playful science fiction imagination. Something tells me that I won’t be the only one wanting one of these sculptures for my bedroom.
