Beth B. Fowler

Sometime today, we’ll find out if this lady can get same-sex married in California or not. But in Michigan, home of Beth B. Fowler, something else perches over the heads of subjects: birds.  Most of Fowlers work seems innocent enough, there are architectural paintings rendered in pastels colors, weasels and assorted fowl.  But nested between these are Michael Jordan and a series of Bird Portraits. At first I thought the portraits must have some kind of sinister undertone, but then I realized they were just fowlplay on the part of Fowler.

In truth, I found these while trying to distract myself from the looming Prop.8 decision: it’s kind of been an albatross around my neck.
