Pet Penguin in Japan

June 17, 2010 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Video

My friend Kyle sent me this video the other day and I can’t stop watching it. It’s from RealTV, which I don’t think has been around since the late 90′s, and features a Japanese family who own a 10 year old King Penguin named Lala. For some reason they edited together like some kind of Charlie Chaplin adventure where the penguin goes to a fish market for a snack, but still it’s soooo dang cute. I mean, they make it seem like he’s a tiny person with a personality, I just can’t get enough. I wonder if Lala is still alive?

  2. That is a the saddest thing I’ve seen all day. The loneliest penguin in the world.

  4. I agree with the two different views expressed above. This IS adorable, but this poor little penguin really is alone in an environment where he was never intended to be. People should not be allowed to keep ‘pets’ such as these. :(

  5. Exactly my thought. He might have adjusted to his situation, but he would still be better off in his natural habitat. People don’t realize (or don’t want to face the fact) that animals need to be able to interact with their own kind. This is indeed one lonely penguin. Not a million sardines from the friendly lady at the fish store could change that.

  12. @Kojima – Thanks for letting us know why he was there. I love when people want to immediately judge a situation that they know nothing about…

  15. Lonely penguin? Did you ask the penguin if he is lonely? Do you speak penguinese? Maybe you can worry more about the innocent cows, chicken, pigs, lambs that are slaughtered every day so you can eat your McDonalds burger, ur KFC, your Pizza Hut and yes, that leather purse you own.

  17. Does anyone know where Lala lives; I’m concerned for his safety since the tsunami. Please respond. He is so adorable and I want to hear he’s all right. Thanks.
