Like I said in the previous post, these two artists seem to have strangely parellel lives and they’re making art, so I needed to post them back-to-back. This little lady is named Jing Wei, who was born in a sub-provincial city in China and raised in the suburbs of Northern California. After that she went to RISD where she studied printmaking and now lives in Brooklyn.
The pieces above are woodcut and ink and have an amazing amount of color and detail that make me totally happy. Her style and subject matters are kind of all over the place which I really love. I picked a couple of the more simple but graphic pieces, but she even has some weird ones like a bunch of meat products with faces waiting to get grilled. There’s also this sweet Guile piece for all you video game nerds out there.
