Happy Monday, hopefully you’ve had a nice holiday and are rested and ready to get back to business. I didn’t really listen to a lot of music last week, I was still in vacation mode but I do have some new stuff to share.

First up is Owen Pallett who used to be called Final Fantasy, though with the release of his new album Heartland he’s using his own name. He’s even going to be re-releasing his older albums under Owen Pallett to make things consistent. Anyhow, I’m mildly obsessed with his new album and it’s been on repeat for the last couple weeks. I plan on giving his album a post of his own though, but you should definitely be ready to buy this album when it comes out.

Following Owen is Vampire Weekend with their new album Contra. On first listen I couldn’t get over how different it sounded form their last album. But after three listens it sounds like they’ve just gotten a little bit deeper… and borrowed more from Paul Simon and even took a cue from Animal Collective on the track California English. I think this album is going to need to grow on people, but I think it’s pretty great so far.

After that comes Fanfarlo, who I almost put on my favorites of 2009 list, and then Charlotte Gainsbourg with her newest IRM. I gave her album another listen to and it’s a lot better then I remember it being the first couple times. Then came Beirut, who was perfect for after that after new years feeling, and then Beach House, Casiotone and Mr. Otis Redding rounding out the list.
