#musicmonday

December 7, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: #musicmonday

I think winter finally struck Los Angeles as it’s a soaking wet mess outside and it’s pretty dang cold. But what better weather to listen to Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas? It’s my absolute favorite X-Mas album and has been forever now. There’s just something so timeless about it.

Following up after that is Charlotte Gainsbourg’s new one IRM, which is definitely Beck feeling in every sense. After that is the newest from The Cave Singers, which is shaping up to being one of my favorites of the year. The new Toro y Moi keeps me dancing, Holiday Shores are an absolute treat as are Princeton. I listen to Sufjan’s BQE a lot, it’s all instrumental and reminds me vaguely of the Charlie Brown X-Mas album. Finishing everything off was a bit of Jens Lekman who’s always good for a rainy day.

Add me on Last.fm and let me know what you’ve got playing this week in the comments.

  5. I like listening to Walkmen records by this time of the year. The expression of their guitars and drums are perfect for the spirit, IMO. Following a melancholic mood i listen to a lot of ambient albums: Tim Hecker, William Basinski, etc…
I’ve noticed when the bad weather came, i started listening to older records of Belle and Sebastian, Yo la tengo and Bright Eyes’ “Lifted or the story…”.
I think these precede and build up my Christmas mood. Only then, around the christmas day, i go to Charlie Brown’s Xmas. Also i like to weird things up, listening to some Tiki, Exotica, Les Baxter. Usually Les Baxter comes after Christmas for some reason. Let’s see how it goes this year.
