Apple’s New New York Store
November 13, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Apple & Architecture & Design

A couple of days ago Apple unveiled a brand new store in New York’s Upper West Side that to me, is absolutely stunning. A friend of mine wrote on my Facebook that it looked like a greenhouse, and I think that’s a pretty apt description, only a greenhouse on an epic scale. The store is a part of a change of thought on Apple’s part, going from smaller stores to much larger stores. I can’t say I’ve ever been in a small Apple store, but it should be interesting to see how much bigger they can all get.
The huge glass ceiling is absolutely beautiful and really shows that they innovate and break the mold no matter what they’re doing, including areas like architecture. I wonder if this new location will be as popular as their Central Park location?

If you've got something to say, keep it positive.Wow, amazing space. I wish my stdio looked like that.
Waaaay too much. The high cieling and tall bare walls look great, sure, in a purely architectural way – yet I can’t help but feel that actually shopping there would be intimidating as hell.
And the heating bill must be scary, too.
holy crap
This location attracts a much different crowd. I noticed it was more locals running into to grab something they lost or pick up a new computer for their 5 year old. It doesn’t have the intense tourist feel of central park.
Gorgeous staircase.
Haha for some reason the first thing I thought of was how cold it must be in there with such high ceilings
this really looks like the apple store out of a simpsons eppisode (i dont remember how they called it, but is was different). the store exactly looks like the one in the eppisode.
You’ve never been in a small Apple store? The one in the small Canadian city I live in is literally the size of a closet. It’s always back to back people. Maybe the 9 hour drive to New York would be worth it?
That’s pretty nuts. The closest Apple store to me is one in the back of a local electronics store, more like an Apple kiosk than anything.
It looks like a new age church because that’s what people treat it like.
Thats why my macs cost so much lol
