Les Soirées de Poche featuring Beirut
November 10, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Music & Video
The folks over at La Blogotheque started a new series earlier this year called Soirée de Poche, which is like their Take Away Shows except for the fact they play in front of a very small, intimate audience. So far there have only been 5 shows but with amazing artists like Kings of Conveneience, Andrew Bird, St. Vincent, Bowerbirds and Beirut, who I’ve pasted above.
The style of these videos feels very off the cuff and you absolutely feel like you’re there partying and singing along with the band. Beirut just has the best energy of any band I’ve seen live and the French certainly know how to have a good time, especially when they start singing Shiki Shiki Baba. I want to go to there.

If you've got something to say, keep it positive.I LOVE Beirut. Thanks for this – I wish I was there for this performance.
Beirut is one of my absolute favourite bands but this is the first time I heard them play La Javanaise – pulled my heart strings. Now if I could get them to perform my favourite Georges Brassens songs, I think I might die of happiness.
That was mind blowing, thanks for sharing. Nantes once again reminded me why it’s my favourite song of theirs, and A Night with A, stunning.
Beirut are gorgeous.
@Mushie- “A Night with A” is actually called ‘My Night with the Prostitute from Marseille”
Blogotheque has a fantastic archive of on-the-street music “videos”. It is a great concept, with Beirut, Elvis Perkins and Andrew Bird being among the best. “Nantes” recorded on rue Oberkampf is fabulous fabulous.
