Ashore and Afloat: An Interview with Swoon

The folks over at Gestalten were kind enough to send me a really rad interview with paper/street artist Swoon. I always love seeing behind the scenes looks at artists and Swoon is one of the most innovative artists creating today. When I saw her installation at the New Images Art Gallery I was totally blown away. She’s able to create entire worlds out of found objects and cut paper and her craft is simply outstanding. I’m also really loving her boats which I read an article about a couple months ago, so it’s cool to hear about that as well.

Have you seen a documentary called “The Run Up” by Upper Playground? This clip reminds me of it. It features interviews with 26 artists, including Swoon. I guess you could label the artists in the documentary as “urban/alternative/street.” I had a chance to see watch some of it in my art class. I really enjoyed seeing how the artists work and the messages they had to say.

    PS I LOVE your blog!

My god. I LOVE swoon. I posted about the Miss Rockaway Armada a while back and even then I couldn’t believe how much depth her work has from project to project, across so many media. Thank you, thank you for this interview. Cheers, Bobby!
