Vivian Maier
October 14, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Photography

Imagine yourself in the 1950′s, wandering around and snapping photos of the normal people you ran into on the street, documenting life through a lens. Then imagine doing that for next 20 years, taking over 40,000 photos inthat time. Well, that was the life of Vivian Maier, a street photographer who captured every day life in the most remarkable way. There’s something amazing about all of her black and white images, she captured so many amazing things and it’s really fun to see what life was like 40 to 60 years ago.
There’s a blog set up now which is starting to showcase her work. It looks like it’s being updated pretty frequently, so be sure to take a look.

If you've got something to say, keep it positive. This is absolutely amazing. Not just the gorgeous photographs, but the story behind them as well. How sad is it that they just might as well have been lost forever, if not for being bought at that auction?
ohhh my goodness. This makes me want to start shooting again. :-/ you know I often wonder how many people are out there who have this huge collection of work that remains unseen until their death or some such. I had this friend who teaches at SVA who has been shooting the street for simply years and he refuses to ever let anyone see what he has created. I know this sounds gruesome but i wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if in several years he is ‘found’ in his apt surrounded by some of the greatest work of our time..
..until then we wait.
i absolutely love black and white. These photos are simply elegant. The message on the mail box is so humorous, it made me giggle.
