Off To Chicago!
September 16, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Kitsune Noir
Hey there. I just wanted to let you know that I’m on my way to Chicago right now. But thanks to my foresight, there will be new posts every day this week, including a Desktop Wallpaper Project and a new Mixcast on Friday. I may not get back to your comments right away, but I’ll approve them all when I get the time. If you want to keep up to my shenanigans while I’m away you can find me on my Twitter.
I’ll be staying in Hyde Park, so ifyou have any suggestions of places I should visit or yummy places to eat please let me know in the comments of this post. Seeya’ next week!
Bobby

If you've got something to say, keep it positive.Giordano’s on (I think?) Madison or Jackson in downtown is really good deep dish. There’s also a hot dog place called Hot Doug’s that does really crazy different kinds of dogs and their french fries are deep fried in duck fat. It’s on North California so it’s a ways out I think.
There are two places I take people to eat when they come to town
1. http://www.victorysbanner.com/
2. http://handlebarchicago.com/
I wouldn’t recommend skipping either of them
The wait at Kuma’s Corner is always ridiculous but totally worth it. I get the veggie patties on my burger but I’m sure the meat is delicious as well!!

check out lou mitchells for breakfast…u order one egg they bring you two.
Eat at:
Hot Doug’s
L2O
The Publican
Alinea
Topolobampo
Maxwell Street market
Hot Doug’s has to be #1 on your list, though you’ll wait in line for an hour, and they only take cash.
In Hyde Park, give Calypso Cafe a shot for the Jerk Chicken.
And if you’re in the mood for some outstanding pork products, hit up The Publican. It won’t break your wallet, isn’t TOO far from you, and there are a bunch of cool galleries and studios in the area.
As a Hyde Parker, I am required to say: you’ve gotta eat at Valois. See your food. Go for breakfast. Bring cash. It’s what Obama would do if that matters.
FYI, Calypso is (probably) open but surrounded by a demolition site–delicious, but eat at your own risk. If you are able to go, they supposedly have several dishes on their menu from former neighbor Dixie Kitchen, also an Obama favorite.
You should come see campus (U of C) because it’s gorgeous (if I do say so myself, being a student), but be forewarned that we’re just about to start orientation and there may be random craziness around. Mostly it should be fairly quiet, though. You may also be hearing about the Seminary Co-op Bookstore on campus as a place to visit, and it is awesome, but be forewarned it is also a textbook hub and there is potential for it to be a mess o’ students, though maybe not so much this week. Satisfy what more bookstore cravings you may have with Powell’s Books and/or 57th Street Books, both on 57th St. just a few blocks apart. If you are on 57th St., check out Istria Cafe under the Metra (train) tracks for good-ass gelato.
For normal city things to do, you’re going to have to leave HP, but I’m sure the friend you are staying with (because I am assuming you’re staying with someone–there aren’t hotels in HP) knows that.
Enjoy. I love my city and my neighborhood.
Stop by Threadless HQ :) 4043 N. Ravenswood 60613
Go eat at AVEC and BLACKBIRD, both places were absolutely incredible.
The Hideout is a great little bar off the beaten path in Chicago.
Lee’s Unleaded Blues for music.
and The Chicago Leather Archives & Museum if you’re feeling adventurous…
green mill. al capones old haunt, hasn’t changed a bit. live music til 4 or 5am. so good.
