You might be interested in Jopo's competitor, called Poni which is made by company Tunturi. They also made new versions of their old Poni.

Here's one link

Notice the front carrying rack, which is so cool!

I actually got one of the old ones (think it's from '69) in yellow. It's comfortable as a city bike, but not built for longer distances. It's getting a bit rusty though, so been thinking of taking it apart and re-paint it.

Jopo bikes are very popular here in Finland, especially those older versions (better looking and more durable). Nowdays Helkama is only manufacturing those new models.

Here in Finland, you could find those bikes easily, but I'm not sure how you can get one there. Maybe you can try to order in FinnishDesignShop (only new versions, sorry): http://www.finnishdesignshop.com/Helkama-m-84.html?language=en&country=241

glad to see these bikes here! these JOPO bikes(JOkaisen POlkupyörä, "everyone´s bicycle") are really known and trendy again in Finland at least. The old versions(on top) are kind of hard to get and find, and can get quite expensive, they are almost like collectors items already. the new model is okay, but can´t beat the original 60´s model´s flat body design. They are really nice to bike and perfect for cruising in the city. recommended, if you can find one!

From Helkama website:

Forty years of waiting is over.

In August 2005 the Financial Times claimed more attention to some internationally interesting brands living a quiet life. The columnist Tyler Brûlé had chosen Helkama’s Jopo as one of the eight most interesting brands.

”Just as BMW has done much with the Mini, Helkama is sitting on a 1960s design icon called the Jopo that could become the urban runabout of choice everywhere from Nice to Nagoya.”

Tyler Brûlé / Financial Times

In order for other people, besides the Finns, to get to enjoy the Jopo, Helkama now expands their distribution channels outside the Finnish borders. Soon, this cheerful classical bicycle will hopefully be available for you too. Let’s stay tuned.

Manufacturer is Helkama, and the model is called Jopo. Jopo is an abbreviation of "jokaisen polkupyörä". It means everyones bicycle. They have been around since the 60's. That green Jopo is the third version and the black one is the first version. Second version came 2000 and third 2009.

The first one looks the best to me too. They are highly valued here in Finland, and almost everybody loves them, not the newer versions though.

All versions are easy maintenance since they have foot brakes and are single speed.

There is some info:

There's also a third generation Jopo with three gears that was introduced earlier this year. The first and second generations have fixed gears but are very comfy to drive in the city. I do my grocery shoppings in Helsinki with a 2nd generation one and the rack is very functional for that. The remains of the first generation are generally sold at relatively high prices online at Finnish equivalents of eBay.

Plenty of Jopos here in Finland. Used to be even more in the 70's. The latest model Jopo3 came out this year.
