Urban Carpet by Instant Hutong

June 7, 2009 - By Bobby Solomon - Category: Art

The folks over at Instant Hutong have created these really amazing embroidered topographic maps of the Hutong area, calling them Urban Carpet. There are 8 rugs total, each of them featuring a town in the Hutong area. The rugs will be on display throughout 2009 in their respective areas for the people to enjoy, as well as showing where the inspiration for these pieces came from.

I think these are stunning looking, and I really love the unique choice of materials as well. Each rug was embroidered by hand using the same techniques that the communist party used in the 70′s in their propaganda pieces.
