The Besiktas Fish Market by GAD

Unexpected architecture is one of my favorite things to come across, much like the beautiful bit you see above. While this could be some kind of monument or an entrance to a metro station, but in fact it's a fish market, probably the most gorgeous fish market in the world. This little gem is located in one of Istanbul's most populated and diverse neighborhoods, so the folks at Global Architectural Development, or GAD for short, decided to respect the site by making the space warm and inviting while giving it a fresh contemporary look at the same time.
I would buy fish from this place every day if it was anywhere near me. The low hanging bulbs with their red cords, the solid concrete shell, the small tiles lining the back counters. It’s a perfect exercise in simplicity and beauty.
Check out the GAD website for more stunning photos of this simple fish market.
