The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!

A friend of mine alerted me to the release of Saul Williams new album, The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! This is the album that’s been making some waves for several reasons. First off, the album was produced and co-written by Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails. Second, the album was released similarly to the way Radiohead released In Rainbows, by download only, with an option to pay or not.

Personally I’ve never been a huge NIN fan, but I’ve been a huge Trent Reznor fan, knowing how talented of a musician and producer the guy is. This alone was enough for me to check this project out. I wasn’t familiar with Saul Williams before this, but I do like some of the more creative hip hop out there like Del, Doom and all the people involved in the Handsome Boy Modeling School record (the first one, not the horrible White People record).

The album itself is pretty crazy. Imagine Nine Inch Nails and Bloc Party mashed together. That’s the best way I can sum it up without insulting this awesome record. Throw on a cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday, and you’ve got something that’s definitely worth a listen.
