Come tomorrow morning, the internet will be a buzz with the news that Radiohead is releasing their new album, In Rainbows, on October 10th. The album is being released through their official In Rainbows website, now that their 6 record contract is up with EMI.

You can order the new album in two different ways, the first is what they call a Discbox, which is the new album on CD and 2 vinyl records, as well as digital photos, artwork and a lyrics booklet, all wrapped up in a hardback book slipcase. That little gem is going to run you £40 or about $81. The other option is that you can simply download the album, but there’s a catch. You get to decide how much you want to pay for it!

I think this is an absolutely brilliant idea. I’m guessing that no one saw this one coming? I know I didn’t. I hadn’t realized their contract was up and that they can play the game any way they want to now. And I’m actually excited about them again, and it’s been a very long time since I’ve been excited about them, especially after the mildly exciting Hail to the Thief. Hopefully this will be the grand return of one of the best bands of the last 20 years!

If you've got something to say, keep it positive.
  1. I’m also stoked by this. It’s such a nice kick in the nuts towards the music industry. Chapeau!

  2. Yeah, I think this is great. It totally shows that it’s the music that really matters, and if you really do give a shit about your fans, you’re going to do well no matter what.

@typefiend @gelatobaby People don't like change, ever. No one even knows what it's truly going to look like, but they already hate it.
