Luc Delahaye

A few weeks back Jeff and I took a trip over to The Getty, mainly because we wanted to see Oudry’s Painted Menagerie, bu also because it’s one of the most beautiful places in LA. While we were there, they had a photo exhibit by Luc Delahaye, that was absolutely astounding. Delahaye is a photojournalist who has traveled the world taking pictures, concentrating mostly on war photography. In the last few years though he’s also been shooting in more of a documentary-style, which is what the exhibit featured.

The pictures were absolutely stunning! They were all printed at a gigantic scale, so you could see all of the minute details in each of them. The subjects were also quite interesting, taking bits of ordinary life and somehow making them exceptional. One of my favorites was a photo of a group of men, they appeared to be middle eastern, all standing amongst a bunch of broken down buildings, looking as if they were fighting against someone else, or at least preparing to. But the amazing part was the shadow from a cloud overhead was coming directly toward the,, giving the foreground a very spooky and ominous feeling, like the worst was yet to come for them.
