I remember when I was a little kid, I’d go to a lot of antique stores with my mom and grandma. Every trip was usually really boring for me, being a 10 year old in a giant antique mall isn’t exactly a definition of fun. But while I was there, I was always on the lookout for really old comic books, something that I could then sell for thousands of dollars. I’d sort through stacks of old magazines for the one comic that would make me rich.
Well that never happened, but looking at Tavis Coburn’s artwork definitely reminds me of all those magazines I looked through. His style is pretty amazing, hearkening back to the 50’s and 60’s era of illustration, big print dots and everything. I guess I’d say his style is even a bit pulp, but with huge splashes of colors.
His regular site is being updated right now, but he has a bunch of rad posters for sale in his online store, like the one above.
