The Best 2012 Olympic Logo I’ve Seen So Far

Having read a ton of stuff about London’s Olympic logo by now, I wholeheartedly agree with Michael over at Boicozine that Foundation 33’s bid logo has by far been the best idea yet. They put it into pretty simple terms as to why this image works:

• The five rings that make up the Olympic logo each represent a different continent of the world
• The five rings are combined to form a single graphic logo
• The new logo brings the different continents and people of the world together and represents the diversity and multi culture realism within London
• The logo references a target, a symbol of aspiration and achievement as well as a sport icon in competition
• The logo is powerfully contemporary and communicates the idea of the modernity and diversity in London
• Contemporary / modern / iconic / cool
• The world in one city
• Focus on London
• The centre off attention

That makes total sense to me. I love the iconography of the bullseye (it works for Target, right?), and combined with the Olympic rings is beautiful.

PLUS it speaks for people of all colors, including Atlantians and Martians. Which is nice.

With an event like the Olympics that can easily be fucked with by homicidal lunatics, I don’t think they’re gonna want a target as their logo.

oh i, i think it looks too much like the Target symbol, you know that red one with the concentric circles. hmm, maybe if it looked less like that i’d like it better, i.
