Plagues & Pleasures on the Salton Sea

Plagues & Pleasures on the Salton Sea

About 300 miles southeast of Los Angeles lies the Salton Sea. In 1905, heavy rainfall and snowmelt caused the Colorado River to swell and breach an Imperial Valley dike, flooding what was known as the Salton Sink. In the 20’s the Sea became a popular tourist destination. But because it has no outlets, the salt from the Colorado River built up, and has made the sea and the surrounding area virtually uninhabitable.

Filmmakers Chris Metzler and Jeff Springer made a documentary exploring the crazy lives of the people who still live in the area. Based on the trailer, the movie looks amazing. With a cast of characters like Hunky Daddy and Naked Dom, the day to day happenings of the sea and the people who live there are exposed. It’s also narrated by John Waters, which makes it extra fun!

The movie has a limited release, but you can also buy the DVD from the films website.
